Alexander (AJ) Klein

I love to take creative and technical risks. That's why, as an electrical engineering and P&D student, my goal is to elevate vulnerable experiences through compassionate communication and the arts. I believe in the power of embracing tension and discomfort so that we can use it to foster empathy. I’m also an avid roboticist—I'm passionate about finding the humanitarian relevancy in ever-advancing technology.

I do sound design and FOH audio for music and live theater, but I’m also particularly interested in all other aspects of production and design. So far, that’s also looked like practical lighting design, stage management, and production management. As an avid ‘eclectical’ engineer, I believe that there is so much to explore through a technical lens. Being a theatrical multitool is my goal—I strive to learn, explore, and evoke new (and sometimes difficult) emotions through whatever project I am a part of.

Environments that require constant adaptation and problem-solving are my favorites. It’s my mission to proactively step in when things inevitably go awry, step back to elevate others’ ideas, too, and put out all of the countless, thrilling little fires that appear as the show approaches—whether they’re metaphorical fires, or real ones.
